Scanning, Readiris, Preview

I recently made the jump from Panther to Leopard and therefore new to Automator. And OCR.

When scanning a book with two pages becoming the image

We want to use OCR to convert about 450 scanned pdf's which each contain two pages.

#1. Will ReadIris Pro for Mac break these pages out or must they be individual pages?
#2. Is there a method that Automator can be utilized to break out all
these pages from Preview and number them?

Any other sites I should investigate as well?
