I'm not sure if I'm going to really get much assistance on this one? But at this point, I'd be curious to even find out if anyone else has run into the same problem I've had here.
I've owned a Fujitsu ScanSnap s1300i document scanner for several years now. Purchased it at a local Micro Center store as a replacement for an older s1500m model scanner that worked beautifully for me, for years, until Fujitsu decided to end support for it in newer OS X releases.
Ever since I had this s1300i, I've had intermittent issues getting the Mac to see the scanner and use it. This persisted through many software releases of the drivers and ScanSnap Home software application. Typically, I'd have to remove the scanner from ScanSnap's configuration on my Mac and go through the whole detection process again. When it detected it, I could then scan with it again - and it seemed to work fine for that whole session, no matter what or how much I was scanning in. The next time I went to use it (either after a reboot or just after not using the software for a couple days while the Mac stayed signed in), it would quit responding again. (The light on the front of the scanner would just blink repeatedly.) Sometimes, I successfully got it working again just by unplugging power and the USB cable, rebooting the Mac, and reconnecting them. But that seemed less likely to work for me as time went on.
Eventually, I tried a fresh install of the ScanSnap software on a Windows 10 laptop to see what would happen there. The scanner worked fine on it, but I didn't leave it set up on there for a long time. It was mainly a test to see if the scanner had some kind of hardware failure or not.
Now that I bought a new Macbook Pro 16" M1X and have been using it as my primary machine, I put the ScanSnap on it. And it worked without issues for the last 6 months or so. But now, I'm back to this same issue I had before!
I'm just not sure what's with this thing, but I'm starting to wish I exchanged it for another unit when I still had that option -- just to rule out an intermittent hardware problem. I'd just junk it and buy yet another scanner, except this cost close to $500 and I don't do heavy volumes of scanning. So page count on this one is FAR from where you might decide it needs new rollers or other parts....
Any other s1300m owners who can chime in here?
