Hi,

My macbook pro (2.4 summer '07) booted this morning with a highly alarming single BEEEEP, before booting normally.

Is it preparing its deathbed and reciting its last words or is there a specific little problem that has occurred? I'm frantically backing everything up (time capsule died last week which was also fun), preparing for the worst.

Any help or friendly point in the right direction would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Laxy

Did you hold the button down for an extended amount of time? That can cause it, because (if memory serves me) the computer things it needs to do a firmware update when you hold the button down for something like 5 seconds.

No, I didn't hold the power button down for any longer than usual, 1 second max. I'll restart once I've finished backing up and see if it happens again.

Seems the death-rattle has begun. the screen fails to turn on but from what I can tell, the machine is still running fine underneath. I fear the summer heat has done something.

Am now transferring everything using the handy firewire boot thing.
