Scheduled Night shift mode not working consistently

i turned on scheduled night shift from sunrise to sunset. It's been working fine for the last couple of days but this morning when I picked up my iPad at 9am it still in night shift mode. Sunrise here is around 7am so it should've turned off by now. Like I said it did turn off properly the last couple of days. I guess it's one of those intermittent bugs like the one that randomly resprings the device at night requiring you enter your passcode in the morning.
