As always with (cr)Apple it's not what they add, it's what they take away. Against my better judgement I just 'upgraded' my Mac Studio from Monterey to the latest update of Ventura, and found that one of the main features I use has gone, for literally zero justifiable reason: the power on/off scheduling function in Energy Saver. I don't leave my computer running like most people seem to do, it's just wasteful of literally everything. I schedule it to turn on and off during those times I'm predictably likely to be using it, between 6PM and midnight.

I can still do this by dropping into Terminal, but why oh why have the simple-to-use options been removed from the Settings panel? It's completely beyond me. It seems to be little more than another one of the ongoing b'stardisations of MacOS to make it more and more like crappy iOS.

why not sleep your mac? there is the argument that powering on & off is more 'stressful' for the computer (& uses more power than sleep).

either way, you can always manually turn if off when you're done, and turn it on (which is even easier) when you're ready to use it.

but i understand this doesn't fix anything...

When they revamped the settings app they probably went through all the items and decided which to throw out. Fewer settings = less work and "cleaner" UI

As a dev, one consideration i have when adding a feature is how to do the main UI and settings. I'm more likely to add something if t requires no changes to the main UI and/or the settings dialog. Sounds dumb but true. Apple has way more manpower and their devs aren't lazy bums like me but I imagine the same dynamic holds
