Typically after three years of functioning perfectly, and now that my AppleCare has expired, my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) has started to play up. I've seen a couple of graphical glitches on the screen from time to time, but more common now is that the screen all of a sudden becomes 'Washed Out. A reboot gets it all back to normal again.
Has anyone else had any experience with issues like this? Most likely I'll take it to an Apple store to see what they have to say. Thought I'd just try to gain as much information that I could before doing so.
Edit: Took the liberty of running the AHT
That would suggest that the hard drive is scuppered, not sure why they would affect graphics performance though. Still, a call to Apple looks like the only way forward from here.
Edit 2: Spoke to Apple Care.
They had me to the hardware test again, same result of course. They then asked me to shutdown and press 'D' to start the hardware test, but when the globe appeared to the hold down the 'L' key. This would stop the hardware test running in 'Loop Mode', at least I believe that's what was said. Ran the test again and it passed without fault.
Next step was to clear the NVRAM (Cmd+Alt+P+R). They've asked me to use the device for a few more days to see what happens. Any sign of issue and I'm to call them immediately and they'll make an appointment to have the hard drive replaced.
Apparently the graphical glitches can indeed come from a dodgy hard drive.
