Screen Brightens W/ External Display

So here is the situation, I hope someone can help me out...

I connect my mbp to my tv using minidisplayport to hdmi

I dim the mbp pro screen to black (so that only the tv shows video)

Then I watch tv, plex, etc.


This always worked fine, BUT I just upgraded to snow leopard (never got around to it and leopard was working fine).

The Problem - Now, when I switch my tv to the mbp input, the mbp screen brightens. It does this every time! So I have to get up and dim the screen again. Why has this behavior changed from leopard? Can i change it back? It's just very annoying and seemingly pointless
