Screen Brightness AC vs. Battery

Is it normal that my screen brightness is a shade less bright when running on battery? Without changing a setting if I unplug the magsafe it dims automatically and instantaneously. Perhaps this is to save battery power however I don't recall my previous MBP doing this.

From the sounds of it you have different energy saving preferences set up.

To check/change go to System Preferences - Energy Saver - Show details - Options - Slightly Dim the display when using this power source.
