Screen capture / recording is not providing video

I am getting only a green screen using Quicktime or my screen recording app, Screenflick. I can see the mouse cursor moving around but on a green background. Any ideas why this might be happening?

What are you trying to record? Some things are blocked by Apple and cannot be recorded for copywrite reasons.
