A photo taken at the brief moment this screen appears during shutdown sequence, right after a brief black screen. This is a new iMac 27 with AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4gb graphics.
The scary thing about this showing up is that I just retired a 2011 iMac 27 after enduring months of a left side of screen pattern malfunction on start up. The old screen had intermittent vertical stripes of variable, sometime brilliant colors on the same left side (only) of screen, that would usually go away after a while. Eventually the hard drive failed without addressing the graphics issue, so a new machine is now in place (<2 months) and the picture here is what i see at every shutdown. I can return this machine due to Costco return policy, and plan to do so.
Anybody here have this experience? Are they all doing this?

I've owned three iMacs (all purchased new) and have never seen that occur. Definitely return it to Costco as they have an excellent return policy.

This has been reported across all GPUs in the new 2020 iMac (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/imac-2020-5700xt-graphical-glitch.2251034/page-76) and I also experience it on my machine having the Radeon Pro 5700. But the issue only happens before shutdown (and not all the time!), so I don't consider this a major concern. In fact, this was happening even on Catalina and I suspect that it's just a software glitch given that these iMacs are the first ones to support True Tone. As long as your screen is uniform during normal use, I wouldn't worry about this problem at all.

As noted, it's a common problem. I'd advise reporting it to Apple though, as they've been sitting on my bug report since September and haven't fixed it yet, so getting more reports in there will make it harder to ignore :)

Thanks for your response...yes, it seems negligible as it is now, but having had the half screen of stripes occure on my past machine, I think I am once bitten twice shy.

Thanks much for your reply. Today i contacted Apple on the chat and was advised that resetting the NVRAM might work. The theory suggested was that something may have gotten scrambled, (how on a new machine? no idea). I did reset NVRAM and now the shut down process does not return to my screen saver ( at which point I saw the 1/2 screen under a fog) after a black screen, but rather goes directly to shutdown, therefore I am not seeing the 1/2 screen clouded image. If this oddity returns in the next few weeks i will return the computer. I appreciate everyone's ideas and encouragements. Thanks much hive mind!
