I swear this seems like it’s both been a sporadic issue (have used Maps on long trips in the past w/out issue), and surely someone has a better solution than Apple docs…at least I hope so.

Multiple times recently (iPhone 15 Pro Max) while driving, including with the phone both plugged into power and not, the screen dims during navigation then goes black. This is literally making the app and phone useless for a pretty basic function.

Apple docs say - oh, disable auto-lock. No, I don’t want to do that, nor do I want my display set to always on. When I use apps other than Maps the other 90% of the time, I don’t care, I don’t want my phone to not auto-lock, and I don’t want my display always on.

Seems like this SHOULD be a simple option but for Maps itself, e.g. - ‘don’t allow screen auto-lock when navigating’ but I seem to be unable to find this.

Any help?

Hey there! Just a few questions to help you out:

A) Is the display using always on?
B) Are you using CarPlay, my friend?
👊
C) Are you using any iPhone cases with easy-to-press or clicky buttons? Some iPhone mounts that aren’t MagSafe and use clamps can accidentally press into the side button. Adjust it or use a different case.
D) Was low power mode used? You can’t turn off auto lock until your iPhone charges up to at least 80% or you turn it off yourself.
