Hi, I got a MBP a while ago and the screen keeps dimming and then brightening up again for apparently no reason. This happens when it is plugged in and I am using it.

Is this some kind of power saving feature I can turn off or is something wrong with my machine?

It sounds like the ambient light sensor. It adjusts the brightness based on the amount of light in the room. Completely normal, but I'm sure you can turn it off.

The ambient light sensor changes the screen brightness as your surroundings get brighter or dimmer. For instance, when my call my wife over to show her something, the screen brightens if she stands behind me.

Edit: Gah! Foiled because I did a search. That link tells how to disable the auto-dimming.
