screen dimming?

just got a refurb mac 15" today: is it normal for the screen to slightly dim in and out? i'm not talking about it dimming from not touching it for a minute...but dimming while i'm using it very slightly.

also the keyboard lights come on and off it seems randomly. what causes this?

edit: so i guess it's controlled by light sensors.. wow.

congrats on your buy, hopefully it does you well. As for the dimming of the screen while in use, i believe it to be an adjustment for ambient light changes. Go to system preferences, then display, and see if at the bottom is checked marked for that. Uncheck it if you want it to stop.
