Hello. The screen on my Macbook Retina mid 2012 goes black during use or doesn't turn on even though the computer starts up just fine. It doesn't happen all the time but a lot. I just had the screen replaced under warranty and the store told me that the computer also has a faulty battery. My question is if a faulty battery can cause these problems? I don't think there´s anything wrong with the screen.

If this is a 15" 2012 retina, it had video card issues. It was covered by an extended repair program that ended last year.

Maybe take it to Apple and see what they say.

I've had a similar issue with my 2015 Retina. They replaced the logic board twice and the screen once. After the third (still happened) they just refunded me the full cost as a gift card including the apple care. I then purchased a 2017 15" w/ touchbar and apple care+ which only came out to a balance of $50. Best $50 upgrade ever! lol.

Hopefully they never resolve it so you get a new laptop as well. This is the second time that they had to replace a laptop for me. It seems when something goes wrong and they fix it at the repair shop, more things go wrong with it and they wind up having to replace it.

Good luck :)!

Thank you for all the suggestions. I delivered it to the store once again and they told me that a replacement of the logicboard is needed. Unfortunately it´s not under warranty anymore so I guess it´s time to look for a new one.

That's so sad. Sorry to hear that.

I had a 2012 retina and I downgraded to the 2012 cMBP because I needed more storage space. I'm still using my 2012 cMBP today.
