I brought my brother's Ipod back to the store because the screen froze randomly while doing casual tasks (music, videos). First we did a hard reset, after that didn't work we made the software-update also with no success.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to show the help-desk-worker the error because we don't know what caused it. She took it back without any guarantee they can fix it or will replace it.

How good do you think our chances are they will replace it? Is this a known error?

If they can replicate the problem and see that it can't be easily fixed with a restore, you should get a replacement.

...just as long as it hasn't been jailbroken.

No, it hasn't been jailbroken - but I doubt they could notice. My 1G touch was jailbroken too and they exchanged it without problems (audio didn't work).

My biggest question is will they replace it even when they can't reproduce the error?

All's good - they exchanged it completely. Thank goodness - I was already worried since it took them over 2 weeks...
