When the system boots for the first time or resumes from sleep the screen on my monitor will flash to a black screen for a second or so after I enter the password. I noticed this started around Catalina upgrade. Everything is working fine but it is a little annoying. I am using the 2018 Mac Mini with Samsung 34" Thunderbolt display and lasted OS

There are many MANY complaints about the "black screen at boot" on the 2018 Minis.

My advice:
So long as it "comes back" and then works normally, don't worry too much about it.

My 2018 Mini ALWAYS "goes black" when booting.
But then... it ALWAYS "comes back".
I've learned to live with it.

I’m pretty sure the black screen on boot is a “feature” of the 2018 Minis :)

When I had my primary monitor attached via the HDMI port…
My 2018 Mini would begin booting using my secondary monitor (i.e. no menu or dock) attached via a USB3 port. Then it would go black for a second or so and resume booting on the primary monitor. IOW it looked like my Mini began booting with “the first monitor it found”, then part way through booting it switched to the monitor that would end up with the Menu and Dock.

Now that both monitors are attached via a USB3 port…
My Mini begins booting with the primary monitor which temporary goes black part way through booting.

Sorry. Besides my daily driver usage, my 2018 Mini runs a 24/7 network traffic/performance monitor (Peak Hour 4). So i never put it to sleep.
