I know there is some kind of option that you can have your screen go dim before screen saver.

I must have it enabled b/c it does it, and it is super annoying.

Any idea where I can change the setting?

I thought there was a slider bar or something where you could adjust how long to wait before it comes on...

yah I wonder what is going on...

Is this an option apple took out with an update?

I have my screen saver set to 15 mins and my screen dims after three minutes...

This bugs the heck out of me!

There is the checkbox in power... but:

1. it is not checked.
2. I think that is something different.

Edit: I know there used to be a slider where you could adjust how long the computer had to be idle before the screen dimmed.

Products affected

Intel-based Mac with built-in display (MacBook, MacBook Pro)

I have an iMac

Also I recall there being a slider where I could adjust ow long before the screen dims.

I remember me setting the dimmer after the screen saver and it would say are you sure you want to do this....

What the heck is going on.. I need to give Apple a call.

All you have to do is click on the "Sleep" tab in System Preferences/Energy Saver.

Here's a screenshot:

No, there didn't. But there *was* a checkbox "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" like that Apple article mentions.

I wonder why the option doesn't exist anymore.

Still there, under the option tab... as you can see from the screen shot above...

Well, look at the other screen shot...

And to make it very clear, the option is called: Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep

I know, I already mentioned that. :) Sorry, I missed it in wakerider017's screenshot. That's where I know it should be. When I posted my first reply to the thread, I noticed that my Mac Pro doesn't have that option. I don't care, I wouldn't use it anyway, but it's odd.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I just bought a MBP and my display dims after a certain amount of inactivity. As soon as I move the mouse or press a key, the display returns to normal brightness. This is not the display going to sleep where it's completely off. I have unchecked the options to dim the display just before the display goes to sleep. But I can't find any other setting in the OS to control this. This is my first Mac, so I may be missing something.

Nevermind! I missed the link above that describes the problem identified by Apple. I'll let this thread go back to sleep.
