Screen going dark on dark pages?!

Hello,

I'm developing a dark website, when testing in firefox the entire screen goes darker when I view a website with a black background.

Annoying and unnecessary.

Note I am running my macbook pro through an adapter to a monitor via DVI-D though I don't think thats the issue.

Is there away to stop this?
