screen hibernating wont awaken

Closed imac with sleep mode last night screen is dark
blue doesn't want to wake up even when I reboot
it starts up fine and then after about 15 seconds screen drifts off into blank and
dark blue, can hear all the applications in the background
What's up? Can seem to wake up
