iPod touch Screen hold/lock

I have a handicap son who loves to watch videos on his brand new ipod 32G ipod touch. Does anyone know how to lock the screen so when he is watching it he doesn't inadvertently shut the video off? we also have an iPad for him, but he does the same thing by touching the screen while the video is playing. Any help would be great.

This is a feature I would love implemented when reading with a certain friend, but isn't included. You can lock the screen orientation by double tapping the home screen and swiping to the left to find the lock button, but that's at the most.
