When I bring my phone out from being in locked mode, I have noticed several times that the screen is not at the brightness setting I have set for the phone.

I'll re-lock my screen....unlock it again and the problem seems to be gone.

It's not a huge deal, just wondering if this is happening to anyone else??

I've had the same exact problem but haven't been able to reproduce it consistently though. Just seems to happen randomly.

Thats usually caused by the auto brightness option in your Brightness settings. Auto brightness adjusts lighting after the phone is unlocked, so when its in the lock screen sometimes it stays dark if when you locked the phone the screen was dim. If its an annoyance you can just turn off auto brightness.

My auto brightness seems a tad screwy at times. Nothing major but it does tend to be dark on rare occasions. I just lock it and unlock it and that fixes the problem. I'm hoping that 3.1 fixes this, but even if it doesn't its not the end of the world

It's not due to auto brightness being on. This happened to me a few times when I first got my 3GS and I never have auto brightness turned on. Seems to be a totally random bug. However in the past couple weeks it hasn't happened at all.

Same here... It happened to me day one with my 3G S and I seriously thought it was broken!! I just lock and unlock it again and it is fine... My autobrightness is off! It happens about 1-2 times a week at random times... Hopefully just a software glitch!

Chalk me up to the dark screen syndrome. I thought I was the only one. But phew (misery loves company eh). I hope Apple fixes this in the next firmware release.

This also happened to my 2G iphone, 3G and now also my 3GS.
Never felt it to be anything serious. It's very random and corrects itself right away.

I doubt that will do anything. Seriously, my iPhone functions exactly as it's supposed to.

Yea - as does mine, generally.

I dunno, I was pleased as punch with 3.0 when it came out, but lately is seems to be getting worse and worse.

- The keyboard was quick and stable - now it's laggier than 2.2.1 was.

- My used to always (without exception) have 5 solid bars of 3G - now it seems to dip all over the place, and even go down to Edge.

- The screen being dark thing, never used to happen - now I've had it happen several times.

- Spell check seems to have gotten sloppier.

Like I said, I dunno. But 3.0 has been a bit weird on my hardware.

It's a bug. Seems to be random when it's as bright as it should be. However, most times it's dim to the point you can barely see it. I am hoping it's a bug - or Apple decided this was a good measure for saving battery and nobody would notice. Lol.

I hope they fix it.

I've had mine do that a few times also hopefully this will be something 3.01 will fix.

I've seen this a few times on the GS as well. I haven't had this with either of the two previous generation models. Freaked me out the first time it happened because I thought I had a display hardware issue. It's happened a few times since and I just ignore it. Odd, but not a big deal I guess.

Happens to me several times a day on my 3gs... Not a huge deal but annoying if you are outdoors and can hardly see the screen. I just lock and unlock a few times and that seems to take care of it.... of course until the next time it happens.

I thought it was just me. My 3GS has the exact same problem with auto brightness turned off. It's not consistent, but does happen when I haven't used my phone in a while.
