I turned my macbook pro on a few days ago and my screen looked like this with the black fading coming from the bottom. It has happened several times since then, and the solution seems to be just to close the lid and re-open it again. Any ideas on what's happening?

Either a vsync or backlight malfunction, I think. Take it to a Genius Bar.

This is crazy. The exact same thing started happening to my late 08' MBP at the same time. Closing the lid fixes it.

Wow, that's really weird. I forgot to mention in my first post that mine is a late '08 model as well.

It's not too much of a hassle for now, but I'll take it to the genius bar if it starts happening more often.
