All iPads Screen laminated to the glass on new iPad?

I was looking at my friends iPad air and I notice that there was a gap between the screen and the glass. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that on the iPhone (6 at least) there isn't this gap and that the screen is laminated to glass (kinda like on the new iMacs). So could the new iPads get laminated screens????

It sounds crazy but it just might work.
