Hello!
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate area, but I figured it was probably the most appropriate area. If not, please notify me where to go.
My grandmother has significant visual impairment. She has a very limited income. She sometimes has difficulty reading her phone (iPhone 6+) and significant difficulty reading papers. She does not have internet at her home (cost prohibitive for the frequency of usage for her and is in a rural area). I thought about screen mirroring as an option for her, but there are some problems. 1) She doesn't have an Apple TV. 2) Apple TVs are cost prohibitive for her. 3) She doesn't have internet.
I can set her up with a WiFi router. Would this function as a WLAN setup? Would that work for screen mirroring to/from an Apple TV connected to her TV wirelessly (without the WiFi having internet access)? Is there another way to screen mirror wirelessly over WLAN without an Apple TV that would be cheaper? I've investigated CCTVs, but they're not wireless and they're prohibitively expensive (thousands usually) and bulky. I'm trying to figure out some solution. If she did have a way to wirelessly screen mirror to her TV, I also thought her iPhone or an old iPad (not sure which of the iPad 1, iPad 2, or iPad 4 might be compatible with AirPlay screen mirroring) could be connected to some sort of stand above papers and be a functional CCTV using the "Magnifier" accessibility setting.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. I'm very open to suggestions. I'm trying to find a wireless solution to keep her from falling over the cord (she mostly watches TV from her bed and the cord would go between her bed and TV stand which would block her bathroom access). I've thought about investigating Android solutions as well, but she's 80+ and I think adapting to another user interface experience would be too much for her (unless using the Android solution simply as a CCTV).
Thank you for any assistance. If I posted this in the wrong section, please let me know!
