I'm getting the weird pixelated lines appearing randomly across the screen on my imac G5 (yes I know they are getting on now)

Please find attached a screenshot of the problem, it seems to only appear once the computer has been on for a few hours, sometimes it crashes the computer and sometimes not. Any help out there greatly appreciated! (as long as its not terminal!)

Well it's the graphics card going. They are soldered that will require a logic board replacement.

If you think you can take it apart, I'd clean and apply new thermal paste in between the graphics card chip and heatsink. This obviously appears to be heat related since it happens after it's been running for a while. The newer paste will allow more heat to dissipate so it will run cooler and not cause the graphics glitches.

ahhhh

Yep thats kind of what I feared. Fixing it myself isn't an option, sounds like you need to be pretty tech-ied up to do all that. Thanks for the reply!

Something that you can do though is get a can of compressed air(or air compressor) and try and blow out as must dust as possible. That may increase airflow and not cook the graphics card as much.
