I turned on my Ipad (original model, 3G 32 gig, purchased May 2010) and part of the screen is dark and or filled with lines. No physical damage to the ipad or the glass.
Seems that my replacement options are 3rd party repair for around $150.
Or send/take it back to the Apple store where the charge is $249 for a replacement:

Any sense if ...
a)... the price of the replacement might have gone down now that the price has dropped on the Ipad 2.
b) ...there's any chance they would replace my Ipad 1 with an equivalent Ipad 2.
c) ...If there's a cheaper replacement option through Apple, perhaps under the $99 battery exchange program. (The Ipad has been used heavily but not so much by me, so I've got no sense of just how much the battery is shot.)

(No, I don't have Apple Care and if I did it would be expired by now.)
