Do you guys use screen protectors to take notes? I've been using the Bellemond, which is made in Japan, starting with my first iPad the 2018 iPP. I also used it with my M2 iPP and it always performed very well. I found it much easier to write on than a bare screen.

However, I'm having major issues with my M5 iPP. I've tried Bellemond and KCT and both show horrible light refractions creating a grainy display, which I did not get with my previous LCD iPads. However, without a screen protector, the new display is impressive.

So, either I will have to return the new M5 iPP (I kept it) and buy a refurb M1/M2 iPP to use with a screen protector or learn to write on the bare screen. My handwriting is horrible without a screen protector. If I choose to keep the M5, how long will it take to get used to the feeling?

I’m using Rock Paper Pencil by Astropad, from Amazon. Been using them for about 4 years, they are great. BTW they are designed to be removable and reapplied if you like. Very paper like.

I use Ambison matte glass screen protectors, no grainy display (iPP 11 M5, iPP 11m4, Mini 7, Mini 6). It doesn’t feel like paper but not as slick as the regular screen.

I’m using a PaperLike on my IPP M5 13”… it does degrade the sharpness of the exquisite display a tad, but it makes the writing experience so much better that I feel it’s worth it. I would like to try the Astropad mentioned by a previous poster because they’re magnetic and can be removed/replaced at will, but I bought the PaperLike before I knew about the other options.

I think returning the M5 would be a bad idea. The best way to get used to writing on the M5 is to slowly spend more and more time writing. The more you write the more comfortable you will become. I wouldn't use a screen protector on the standard glass M5 when writing.

I'm keeping the M5. Absent the issue with the grainy display with the screen protector, it's an amazing machine. I am going to try to get used to writing on the screen.

I tried my best to get used to Paperlike but it didn't work for me. I felt like there was too much drag on the Apple Pencil. If you've never tried the Bellemond Kent, it's a truly great compromise as it feels effortless to write on. But if Paperlike works for you, then that's awesome. Enjoy your M5!

I’m looking into the Bellemond now. Thanks for the tip!
