Just got new U2 watch and keen to keep it pristine - any one use screen protector on it or just leave bare given it’s a sapphire screen ?

My nine month old series 9 with no screen protector is absolutely pristine despite a few bumps into door frames and the like. Sapphire is 9 on the mohs hardness scale, which makes it incredibly scratch resistant. If I were planning to plunge my wrist into a bag of diamonds (or a bag or sapphire watch crystals) I'd definitely want that screen protector, but since I'm not I'm happy to go naked. 😂

Ultra has sapphire glass and is scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. Depending on what you do while wearing it, if you feel you need it get it. Personally, due to disabilities I use a screen protector and the case, even though I don’t like cases. My screen protector is a spigen ez fit tempered glass and the case is a clear spigen thin fit. I have dropped the watch a few times on a hard tiled floor and have not incurred any damage.

I would say it depends on your lifestyle, your hobbies, if you are clumsy, etc.

But if you are worried about it, get one.

I bought one (Spigen; just the glass cover, no bezel cover) when I first got my Ultra 2. It was nearly impossible to see or feel that it was on, but I had some issues with touch sensitivity (missing touches and misplaced taps). I ended up taking it off. No issues since.

I have never had a scratch on any Apple Watch with sapphire glass, and I’ve had every series except series 6 and Ultra 2. My Ultra is the first one that got multiple scratches somehow. Apple let me replace under AppleCare+ as an accident repair.

I've had every Apple Sapphire watch and never had a scratch despite banging it on just about everything.

Haven’t used one on the ultra 1 or 2 and no issues at all with the screen. Still looks brand new!

Ultra 1; not using any protection on metal nor glass. Much nicer without, and have done some trips into the mountain for light climbing, no issues. The only marks my Ultra got, was from car work in cramped conditions in the engine bay, one scratch on the outer metal edge of the display, next to the plastic around the display.

I've been running screen protectors on my apple watches for a couple of years and wouldn't go without one now. I use Ghost armor. Its like 15 bucks to get it installed and replacements are $5 whenever needed no questions asked. The Ghost armors are so good you can barely even tell they are there. I upgraded to the AW2 about 2 weeks ago and immediately had one put on. I probably don't need it but I'd rather spend $15 now then regret it later when / if a scratch does happen. Its cheap insurance.

Review the video here:

The short version: if you manage to damage the front glass on an Ultra, that’ll be the least of your worries. You’ll be much more concerned with how to live as an amputee …

I have never used a screen protector in any Apple Watch and my ultra 2 is doing just fine and I got it launch day

I have an S6 that I tried using a screen protector on. You could always see that it had a screen protector, and then periodically it would come off and look like the screen was shattered. After that happened 3 times I gave up. My screen still looks fine after 3 years, and my wife's S6 SS looks even better.

I don't think its necessary.

Had my AWU2 since December 2023, use 3-4 times a week MTB riding. Had my share of crashes, including this OTB last week due to left pedal strike on that dead stump portion, umph.

The watch glass very very durable, mine looks like new still.

Let’s put it this way…if you actually managed to scratch the screen, it would be the equivalent of winning a gold medal and something you’d proudly show off. I’m generally very careful with my watches but things happen…I’ve managed to whack it into door knobs, hand rails, etc and others have done much worse to theirs all without issue. SP for the ultra is certainly not needed
