Very ticked. I noticed that my glass screen protector had a little chip in it On the edge. Removed it today and noticed a small scuff where the chip was. About a cm long. Clearly appears under magnification to be a scuff of some kind into the glass, likely caused by the broken shards that were under it for a few days rubbing against it. It’s on the edge, but still. I’m crazy ocd about my screen. Anyone else ever have this happen? Had the phone a month. Ugh.

Apologies to the mods. Posted this elsewhere but really wanted to post this here instead of under accessories, but feel free to delete one or the other.

Only option I see is put a new screen protector on and forget about it. Apple won't replace it under warranty and paying for a screen replacement isn't worth it unless you have Applecare+

I still have time to add AppleCare but I also just thought maybe I’ll upgrade next year and not sweat it too much. Can’t really see it. Just frustrating. I’m wondering how much it’ll cost to upgrade next year if I trade this one in. 250 or 300 I’m guessing. And if I skip AppleCare It’ll be even more cost effective. Still surprised it scuffed it.

They won't penalize you for a scratch... Normal wear and tear

Bugeyesti is correct, just put a new screen protector on it and try to ignore the fact. Also, a new screen protector should help conceal the scratches that perhaps were visible before.

It was actually mainly only visible after rubbing a lense wipe over the spot, because the wet from the wipe would kind of pool around the scratch. When it dried it became mostly invisible except maybe in the right light at the right angle. Still pretty sure it was actual damage to the glass though. But very minor. new screen protector definitely covers the spot. I assume I can also pay 8 bucks a month as well for coverage just in case, and that way avoid paying full price for coverage, especially considering I may upgrade again in a year.

I may have to go back to using terrible plastic screen protectors

You ‘get exactly what you pay for’, I’m not sure what else you’re expecting here. If you want quality, Apple sells/installs a Belkin screen protector, which they apply directly at their store.

Doesn’t seem like quality would much play into it if we’re talking tempered glass screen protectors and the glass scratching the screen if broken. The materials are mostly the same. And plastic screen protectors would be even cheaper, but wouldn’t damage the screen. Wasn’t really aware until now that it was possible the glass screen protectors could potentially damage the screen it is meant to protect. Just a warning to folks that it’s possible.

Interesting. My first assumption would be that whatever caused the chip may also be what caused the scuff.
