I've hear a few times now that the anti glare monitor in the 2.66 is NOT of the same quality as that in the 2.93. This doesn't make sense to me but was hoping someone could either confirm or deny this.

Apple uses different manufacturers for its monitors. They either put the "cheaper" ones into the 2.66 or it's just been a coincidence that the people with 2.66 have been getting worse ones.

How can you tell which screen you have? Which manufacturer code is the higher quality?

That seems fishy. I don't see what upgrading the processor has to do with the screen. If ordering that option got you a better screen they would advertise it as such.

Two of my friends compared their 17"s (one is a 2.66, the other 2.93) and the screens were identical. Whether this is the case across the production line or not is another story.

For the 15" pre-unibody MBP's there were at least 3 manufacturers and twice as many specific revisions of screens that were used. When you get the Apple part for the screen you are getting one of them, effectively, randomly.

They are all *technically* in spec, but some are much better than others.

well for me it's important to know that the quality among the 17" anti-glare panels is consistent; as far as i know there's just one panel, and it's pretty good.

right...?

I own a march built 2.66 17" and have ordered a CTO 2.93 17", I am more then happy to see if there is any truth in this when the new machine arrives.
Two things I have noted from my early Jan built 17" is magnetic latch is a lot stronger, screen hinge is much stronger then previously. Also it dod not require the graphics update that was released recently.
