But, I might buy it later today and finally get to use my G5 as a second screen for my MBA using Logic Pro X (it'd be helpful!).

I've used it before with a pair of MacBooks so I could have a dual display setup on the road.
It was effective for what it needed to do, which in my case was to display the mixer window of Logic. I tested it (briefly) with video playback and it didn't really seem up to the task.
What specifically were you going to use it for?
I have 2012 Mac mini and PowerPC g5 and have been using Synology to share the keyboard and trackpad.
I am trying out screen recycler to have dual displays. I haven't spent but about 15 minutes playing with it but it isn't acting quite right. For instance when I first installed it let me change the screen resolution but will not let me change it back and the curser has been leggy acting funny and disappearing .
