Screen refresh issue

I have a 13 inch, mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Its specifications are shown below.

Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)

I run Microsoft office for Mac 2011. I am having screen refresh issues primarily with Outlook. Sometimes command H won't hide Microsoft Word.

When I say screen refresh issues, that means that if I hide Outlook pieces remain visible on the screen.

I also have installed an Adobe creative suite and FileMaker Pro.

Any thoughts as to why this screen refresh problem is occurring?
