So here's the deal. I have a C2D Mac Mini 2.26Ghz running Lion Server connected to my Sony Bravia 60" HDTV in the living room. I use it to play movies that are stored on an external USB hard drive and also a 1TB WD MyBookWorld NAS. This setup seems to be plenty beefy enough to play just about any of my movies except perhaps full on 1080p off the NAS, without stuttering.
I started noticing that anytime I had Screen Sharing enabled from my MacBook Pro C2D 2.8 17" (also running Lion) in my bedroom to the living room, the living room Mac Mini would start stuttering the video as if it was a strobe light effect. (It took a long, long time to determine that this was the problem because it had never happened before with Snow Leopard.)
Can anyone tell me why Screen Sharing from the laptop makes the mac mini stutter?
Also, I just recently installed Apple Remote Desktop on the laptop and decided to "control" the Mac Mini with it and noticed that by doing it this way, there is no stutter on the mac mini while I'm controlling it from the laptop via ARD. I would have thought that ARD and Lion's Screen Sharing were just about the same thing, but evidently they handle stuff differently. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about any of this stuff.
I don't know what Apple changed about Screen Sharing between Snow Leopard and Lion but I don't like how it affects my computers.
