Screen sharing on Messages using 2009 iMac

I have a 2013 MacBook Air and also a 2009 27" iMac. I can use the screen sharing feature on my MacBook Air fine, but for some reason it's grayed out on my iMac. I checked the specifications and it seems like it should work on my iMac as well. Anything I can do?
