In connecting two macs via the wireless network (screen sharing) can the volume be heard from the host computer?
TIA.

Not with Screen Sharing on its own, no. What audio were you hoping to hear - System alerts?

let's say...starting a movie or a song on the host basement computer and listening it upstairs from the connecting computer.

I don't think screen sharing is ideal for watching video from one Mac to another. If there's no other way, you could try Soundfly to broadcast the audio, but you would be better off streaming songs via iTunes.

i used that just as an example, i use my ATV for sharing multimedia files. My question is...do the Mac 'screen sharing' or the 'connect as' features include an option for the audio to be shared?

No, Screen Sharing does not share audio. "Connect As..." allows you to browse the remote computer's shared folders in the Finder and is nothing to do with audio.

Got it. This ? came about when I played around editing a home movie from my MBP off of the iMac down in the basement. I noticed I couldn't hear the audio.
Thanks.
