Screen sharing with iOS

Are there any free apps available that will allow an iOS device to screenshare with either another iOS device, or with an OS X device?

The two devices are not, and will never be, on the same network.

That's free if you can get someone else to pay.

Jailbroken iOS devices can be viewed and controlled using "Veency" and a VNC app.

Well its free for 30 days at least... finding free apps that do this WITHOUT compromising security can be a tall order

True! With the paid services you get what ought to be a decent amount of security. Anything else and you're on your own.

I'm surprised Apple haven't allowed iOS devices to use the Screen Sharing functionality found on OS X.
