is screen sharing from a pc to a mac at all possible? is there a chat program that can do it on windows and link up to ichat or something?

do both workstations have to have this software installed?

If your referring to your MBP in your sig, it already has a VNC server built in but I would go with getting a viewer on it as well.

The windows box will need both the viewer and the server.

I do this from home from my iMac and as well from my iPhone (in rare cases it's needed) and VNC to my office PC at work and as well from work VNC to my iMac at home.

The Mac can also use MS Remote desktop, but from PC to Mac you'll need VNC.

Windows Remote desktop has a Mac version that lets you view Windows desktops on your Mac.

If you want to go the other way around, get a VNC viewer like TightVNC mentioned above and MacOS X has a built in VNC server. To turn it on enable screen sharing in the Sharing section of System Preferences.
