i know how to take a screen shot, but is there a way to take it in a .jpg format. i can't remember if and when i saw a preference for this. please no 3rd party software because i can't afford it:(

I think Grab can save as .JPG. But Cmd+Shift+3 and exporting the PNG as JPG is prolly faster.

Personally I use Capture Me 1.2, which is freeware btw. I use CM1.2 because it can take DVD stills.

I would personally just convert to jpg using preview. But, does anyone know if doing this results in a lose of quality? Not that it reallty matters, but I just wanted to know.

I think you can choose to not recompress. Or choose maximum quality.
