2012 MBP, "Hi-resolution" not retina *1680x1050* 12Gb RAM, 750 Gb HD spinner, i7 (2.6Ghz)

I'm trying to get this one going again and took out the HD to try recovering the data after the system crashed and the partition was mucked up. After trying a LOT of tools, I gave up, put the drive back in, and tried to boot with USB to install OS X 10.11. The problem is, although I get the normal chimes, the display does not come on. It DID work prior to opening it for HD removal.

What I have tried:

1. Reset PRAM (5 or 6 times)
2. Reset SMC (another 5 or 6 tries)
3. Remove and reseat RAM.
4. Disconnect battery, wait a few minutes, and restart
5. Offered a virgin to the gods of the volcano.

Nothing worked. Any further ideas? I'll eventually replace the clamshell, but for now the glass is cracked, and while it is like looking through varicose veins, the display was normally functional- the only issue was the cracked up screen glass, not the panel itself.

Thanks!!!
