Iphone 12 pro max running IOS 16 and only way to turn screen off is with side button. Have checked and double checked all the display settings and changed the 'off' time from 30 seconds to a few minutes, have reset phone, etc etc but once screen is on it does not turn off automatically. Any ideas? Thanks

Possibly a Reset All Settings

I’m actually having the same issue. Sorry it’s happening to you but glad someone else is having the same issue. It just started since I’ve updated to IOS 16 beta 5. Any ideas?

Try to clean your iPhone screen. Use alcohol wipe or sth. Ghost touch can cause iOS to think you are still using while you are not.

Maybe try turning off or toggling the "Attention aware features" setting and see if that makes any difference? If not, try a hard restart. If all that fails, you may have to try a "Reset all settings."

I've got this too and definitely seems to be a bug so I have reported it. You can actually see the phone trying to auto lock but the screen "flashes" briefly as it's it waking up again. Is fine on the lock screen but in the main screen I have to manually lock it now otherwise the battery will run down.

This is also being reported on the AppleSeed discussion forums. Definitely a bug affecting certain models.

Same issue experienced (13PM 256) with auto-lock not turning screen off. Reported issue and have reverted back to 15. Everything else looked ok to me and battery life was even ok for the day I tested.

I've found out (as Apple contacted me) this relates to the stock wallpaper brought over from the update. If I add a new screen with wallpaper from iOS 16 the issue resolves and the screen times out correctly.

Frustrating because I really like the 13 Pro dynamic blue wallpaper (even though it's no longer dynamic) and you can't get this at present though existing wallpapers.

Interesting. I was using a photo for my wallpaper transferred over but never changed it. I might try again out of curiosity. Thx.

I was having the exact opposite issue - my auto-lock was set to “never” and yet on 3 separate occasions my screen randomly locked itself.

Since the screen-not-locking bug seems to be fixed in the new beta, there is the possibility that they fixed code similarly responsible for my screen-locking-too-often bug, but I haven’t installed yet to find out.
