Hello,
Prior to iOS12, we had our kids' iPhones locked down to just be iPods by restricting virtually all of the applications; We just want them using music/camera/weather/etc. They have iPads as well, but we keep the restrictions on those far more lax; They have the iPhones all the time, but we keep the iPads in our bedroom and they can only use them for specific time periods.
For iOS12, I was able to replicate the same functionality by enabling Screen Time on each of their devices separately. However, I found that whenever I tried enabling it via my own phone through the Family Sharing settings, it would override the local settings I had set for each device. I really wanted to use the Family Sharing Screen Time settings so that I could monitor their usage directly from my phone. Unfortunately, it seems to use the same set of restrictions for all devices that child is logged into with their iCloud account; This means that I can no longer restrict their iPhones down to just basic music/camera functionality without also doing the same to their iPads.
I tried every permutation I could think of, and I just can't find a way to get screen time parental controls through family sharing working for just their iPads, while keeping a separate more restrictive version of screen time parental controls working for just their iPhones. Anybody have any ideas? At this point I'm thinking of trying to downgrade their phones back to iOS11.
