Screen turns back on when changing volume from earpod controls

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 6 and i noticed an issue with the Music app. When I am listening to music with the screen locked, it turns on again whenever i change the volume with controls on my EarPods. This is draining the battery.

How do I stop the iPhone from doing this?

I have the most recent iOS update.

Since 2013 european ipods and iphones are capped. Ipads escaped cause the arent sold with earphones. If you want the real headphone amp performance either you buy a non european unit or you jailbreak yours.
