Screen unknown callers?

how does this feature actually work? I get a lot of spam calls so would enabling this feature stop these calls from coming in? I’d appreciate an explanation thanks

My understanding, if the phone number isn't in your contacts they get an automated message indicating they need to explain the reason for call. If they don't, call doesn't come through and they can't leave a message.

One day in, and it works like a charm!!!!

I live in Germany, set the iPhone language to English and don't see the option for this feature even though it's available in Germany. Really weird.
