Screen won't go off/no screensaver

My screen isn't turning off and the screensaver isn't coming on when they're supposed to. I've messed around with the settings, but to no avail. Any ideas?
 
got it! i had a video running on my dashboard; i didn't realize it would still but running when i didn't have the dashboard open.
