I am a middle school teacher in a small private school. My lead teacher has tasked me with finding a solution for a video "bulletin board" that we can use and update in our classroom. She would like for it to have the possibility of running multiple things on it at once. I would imagine she envisions it like a news ticker/RSS feed and artwork/images and calendar items all running at once. I have seen fairly slick things at museums and restaurants that do what she is thinking about, but we do not have the kind of budget that allows for this. Those things are usually outsourced to IT departments and third-party vendors. This solution has to run from an intranet as our head of school does not want anything online for reasons of liability.

Some solutions that have been posted by my friends include running a macmini server and using quartz composer to program flashy displays. I have to do this during a computer elective with a quarter of the students during the first six weeks of school. I don't know how easy it is to get students up to speed on this. Does anyone know of a software solution that would let me do the kinds of things I need it to do? Would keynote or PowerPoint let me do these kinds of things? Is there a developer out there that does these kinds of things?

Thank you for your help,
Patrick
