im wondering how to increase the duration of the thumbnail in macOS Mojave/Catalina. I believe it appears for about 5s, which is convenient to drag and drop on Safari or Photoshop. I want it to last more, around 8s for example. Sometimes im too slow to reach the screenshot and it saves on my Desktop. Ive seen this topic around the internet but I've never seen any definitive answer. Maybe something we can change throughout defaults com.apple or some module in GitHub?

I see you asked this question verbatim on the Apple discussion forums almost 2 years ago:

The answer appears to still be "no". However, I found another thread where someone gives the useful tip that if you hold down the control key while taking the screenshot, it copies it to the clipboard, so you can simply paste it in an email, forum post, etc.

The screencapture command available in Terminal has a lot of options:
-c Force screen capture to go to the clipboard
-T <seconds> Take the picture after a delay of <seconds>, default is 5.
-u Present UI after screencapture is complete.

If you don’t want the file to be saved, you can just use screencapture -c and paste the image into your desired application.
The command (screencapture -c) can be included into an executable command file, an AppleScript or a Service/Quick Action that can be triggered by a shortcut.
