screenshots not working...

hi, i tried this before and it worked.
shift control command and 4 = this pointer thing where i can click and drag and take a screenshot portion and it puts the png on my desktop.

now when i do it....i take the shot...but it doesnt go on my desktop.

any idea?

stupid question: have you mowed through the preferences to see if it has saved the file somewhere else?

how...sorry....preferences? is there a preference to say where to save it?
i thought it just defaulted to desktop.

ive checked spotlight, by typing in png, cant find the screenshots.

Command-Shift-4
Leave off the Control

Using "Control" with that combination puts it on the clipboard
You can use "paste" after that, but it doesn't put it on the desktop
