i tried installing my own icons but i didn't realize that this is not possible on Mavericks and i don't have any clue on how to fix it... anyone have any ideas???:( (they are the ones with the .png icon in their place. they are App Store, FaceTime, and iTunes)

Go to the Applications folder. For each app right-click and choose Get Info. In that panel click on the icon at the top left to highlight it, then press the delete key. Enter your password when prompted and this should restore the icons back to their defaults. To have the changes show up in the dock either restart the dock, launch the apps, or drag them off and then put them back on.

Oh, and it is possible to successfully change icons on Mavericks.

What you did wrong was copy the little tiny icon in the get info window. Open the icon file in Preview, select all, and copy. Paste it on the little tiny icon in the get info window for the Applications.
