So I notice the lag when I scroll through this page:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/02/the-three-new-free-playstation-plus-games-are

When you scroll through the community comments at the bottom of the article, a noticeable amount of lag can be experienced (for me at least). However, the main article scrolls smooth.

Why would the comments section (which is text only) make the scrolling so laggy?

What is everyone's thoughts?

Could be bad coding, slow server loading the comments or disqus is slow.

I deal with disqus in the backend and it has its moments.

Scroll lag depends on the user's perception and the scrolls use (sounds like your not reading the comments when the scroll lag happens) the auto-load for a certain amount of comments is also common.

I should also point out that I browsed IGN's website daily on my 2009 MBP and I never had that bad of lag. Disqus was always super smooth, but now it is boggy.

It could be Local issues with either Lion handling the scroll, Safari handling the coding then optimising...

It could be Disqus, I see that IGN have updated to Disqus 2012 and this has slowed their servers for sure as they now have to support 3 versions.

ipv6 has now gone mainstream and a lot of websites are changing too.

I believe that it is a combination of all subtle differences adding up to a minor scroll lag. Just means more optimising by software developers.

There is always a bigger picture you know.

that's just the page. Even my 3,4 ghz i7 quad iMac can't scroll this page smoothly.

Rubbish. Disqus slows down web pages. We added it to one of our websites recently and it causes page slow down whilst waiting for comments to load, which did not happen previously.

Same with Facebook iframe modules and so on. They all cause lag issues as they are loading content from a third party server.

I honestly think retina MBP users are just trying to find any issue (much like iPad 3 users who return their device over any minor screen-related problem).
