scrolling problem on 10 gig iPod 3G

"this happens occasionally and does not have any sort of pattern/action to activate this annoying bug/glitch that makes it LAG when i scroll through lists of ANY size...
usually it would take about 4 seconds to scroll through like 400 songs... BUT when this problem occurs it takes up to 20 seconds!!!
i have tried all the obvious solutions
1. reset didnt work
2. restore didnt work
3.re-format didnt work
4. drain battery completely and leave for 24 hours didnt work
5. re-download 2.0.1 software didnt work..
6. sent back to Apple and they gave me a new one and it has same problem.
Environment:
10Gig iPod 3G
OS X 10.2.6
iMac 1Ghz 512ddr
iTunes 4.0.1
iPod 2.0.1 software.

If nobody has given you an answer, the odds are good nobody KNOWS the answer. Bumping your posts and saying "please" will not miraculously give us the answer.
The fact is that if there seems to be no pattern to it, there isn't much we can diagnose. All we can give you is the basic steps:
-Reformat the iPod and restore all of the software
-If that doesn't work, take it to an Apple Store or some such location.
